WHAT IS PLANET OCEAN MONTPELLIER?
The Aquarium Mare Nostrum and Planétarium Galilée have become Planet Ocean Montpellier: the underwater and space odyssey in Montpellier! For a fun and immersive exploration of the seabed to the limits of the universe, there is nothing better than a visit to Planet Ocean Montpellier, which is located within the Odysseum leisure complex.
With its breathtaking scenery, including more than 24 pools housing nearly 400 different animal species, Planet Ocean Montpellier offers a total change of scenery whether you are visiting alone, with friends or family. Each space has been designed so that everyone, whatever their age, can find something of interest. On the programme: various species of shark, rays of all kinds, a jellyfish ballet and feeding of the Cape penguin colony, and also a panoramic view of a canyon on the ocean floor! As for sensations, the storm simulator takes visitors on a turbulent journey through the heart of the Roaring Forties, the touch pool makes it possible to stroke the stingrays who simply love to have their bellies scratched, and finally a surprising virtual encounter with sea lions.
But that’s not all… to push the limits of exploration even further, on 10th April 2018 Planet Ocean Montpellier opened a brand new “UNIVERSE” zone! Each visitor will discover another world, the complete opposite of the seabed, but just as magical as the cosmos and stars that form it. Once again, everything has been thought out to satisfy curiosity and entertain both adults and children. In a very immersive environment, fun activities allow everyone to explore, discover and learn while having fun or enjoying new experiences.
Visitors will enter this magical and mysterious world via the aqua-stellar airlock to enjoy some remarkable experiences: step into the shoes of an astronaut, get an infrared view of yourself, experience an expedition on the surface of the sun, or visualize the earth from the Cupola of the international space station. Finally, each little explorer will be able to enrich the cosmos by drawing their rocket or space object featuring their name.
